Why Indian Skin and UV Light Have a Complicated Relationship

Indian skin sits in Fitzpatrick types III to VI, which means it carries more active melanocytes, the cells that produce melanin, than lighter skin types. That is a structural advantage against sunburn, but it is also why hyperpigmentation runs deeper and lasts longer. Every time UV radiation hits unprotected skin, the melanocytes read it as an injury signal and push out more melanin. For someone dealing with post-acne marks, melasma, or sun spots, that daily UV exposure is not neutral. It is actively feeding the darkening cycle, even on overcast days, even through glass, even during a ten-minute auto ride.
