Habit 1: Fix the drip you've stopped hearing

Habit 2: Capture and reuse your RO reject water

For every litre of purified water an RO unit produces, it discards between two and three litres as reject water, water that is not contaminated, only slightly higher in dissolved solids than the input. Most households pipe this directly into the drain. A family using a mid-range RO purifier loses between 60 and 90 litres daily this way.
Redirecting that reject water requires one rubber pipe and a storage bucket. Habit 3: Install a low-flow showerhead and time your bucket fills
A standard showerhead delivers 10 to 15 litres per minute. A low-flow showerhead, available at plumbing supply shops across India for between ₹300 and ₹800, delivers 6 to 8 litres per minute without a noticeable change in pressure. For a household where two people shower daily for eight minutes each, the switch saves between 32 and 56 litres per day, roughly 1,000 to 1,700 litres per month from one fitting.
For households that use buckets rather than showers, the equivalent habit is timing the fill. Most people overfill by 30 to 40 percent because they leave the tap running while doing something else.
