The article is influenced by the stampede event happened in the 'MahaKumbh' event 2025 in 'Prayagraj'. The article tries to shed light or give some options to keep in mind when one finds them in the crowded places or in the middle of stampede. The article suggest some of the options which is commonly suggested but also plays a crucial role in holding a safe position in a crowded area.
Who like to be crushed ?? No one! , who wants to be stomp by the public over and over ?? No one !
But it's a unusual happening which have indication before it happens . The sudden occurrence of this phenomena happens when there is a lot of pushing & shoving in the crowd when moving in any direction or when one of the human trips and push or pull or fall in the moving crowd and then 'Domino' effects starts playing it's role . One can only hope for to not be part of anything like this but it happens more often than people think .
Here are some steps you can keep in mind when going to a place which is very crowded and compact:

1. Stay
Surviving a stampede requires preventing stampedes from happening in the first place. Pay attention to emergency routes together with exits so you can identify crowd density in public places. You should relocate to a less crowded section when you detect emergency warning signals that include rushed crowd motions followed by loud sounds and unexpected traffic jams. Your understanding of evacuation paths combined with prepared escape strategy creates a critical factor for emergency survival.
2. Keep Your
When crowds become determined you should stand alert by keeping your feet at a shoulder-width distance to resist the crowd's pressure. Your stability during crowd situations will increase because this position fights off the pressure from people who push you from all angles. When standing keep both feet on the floor and avoid quick body movements that could make you fall. When someone shoves you quickly reposition by placing your arms for balance and clearly anchoring yourself to the floor.

Trusting your own instincts instead of following the crowd leads to fatigue while accidentally stepping on people becomes more likely. Shift your path towards the outer areas of the crowd because the density is lower there. You should search for exit points as you move while adopting calculated footsteps in your path. A safe way to reach an exit when it's beyond direct reach is moving diagonally instead of shoving forward against the crowd.

When stampedes occur oxygen shortage emerges as one of the main reasons which lead to deaths. When you find yourself trapped beneath heavy pressure you should adopt a boxer stance by placing your arms in front of your chest to free up your breathing space. Face forward with your head kept elevated at all times. Freedom to breathe could become impossible in a dense crowd thus maintaining a tiny area around your chest and lungs might even determine whether someone survives.

A stampede involves perilous risks when someone falls. Begin your recovery from a collapse by rolling to your side followed by using your knees and hands to push yourself back to a standing position. You should assume a fetal position for protection while unable to stand up. Protect your head and neck area. Keep your body in a hunched fetal position next to your body which minimizes your contact area while protecting abdominal regions from damage. Upgrading someone who falls near you should be your priority when conditions permit.
Alone or with other people you can face death when trapped between walls as well as fences and barricades during stampedes. Make a strategy to move away from any visible solid objects you see in your path. When crowds press people against fixed objects it becomes extremely difficult to breathe. Movement to open spaces provides a better chance for you to breathe easier while finding escape routes. During a dangerous change in direction you should defensively raise your arms to avoid taking on too much pressure when escaping an urgent situation.
You should help someone who struggles as long as it remains safe for both of you. You may help avert accidents by safely assisting people to safer spots. Stay safe for your survival while avoiding dangerous locations. You should establish safe protective areas between yourself and children together with elderly individuals along with people who need help walking.

Your ability to think clearly becomes impaired by panic thus exacerbating difficulties for survival. Keep yourself focused as you breathe deeply while you perform all actions deliberately. A calm state of mind will influence your survival potential and your risk for injury as you navigate dangerous situations. Keeping your arms near your chest preserves your ability to breathe while preventing unnecessary panic for both yourself and others. When you stay calm you obtain better judgment skills which enable strategic movement instead of helpless responses.
