Why Maa Yogmaya Is Connected To The Birth Of Lord Krishna

She was born in Gokul as the daughter of Yashoda while Krishna was born in Mathura to Devaki. This was done so that Krishna could later be safely exchanged and protected. Her presence was already part of the plan even before Krishna opened his eyes in the prison cell.

Before Krishna was born, Devaki’s seventh child had to be saved from Kansa. That child was Balarama. According to Hindu beliefs, Maa Yogmaya used her divine powers to transfer Balarama from Devaki’s womb to Rohini’s womb in Gokul.

When Vasudeva reached Gokul, he exchanged baby Krishna with the newborn daughter of Yashoda. That baby girl was Maa Yogmaya herself.
When Kansa tried to kill her, she slipped from his hands, rose into the sky, and revealed her divine form. She warned him that the child who would destroy him was already alive somewhere else.
This moment made it clear that Maa Yogmaya was not weak or helpless. Even as a newborn child, she was stronger than the king who ruled through fear.
5. She Is Worshipped As Krishna’s Sister
In many parts of India, Maa Yogmaya is believed to be the sister of Lord Krishna. This is why her story is remembered so closely with Krishna Janmashtami.
She is worshipped in many forms such as Durga, Vindhyavasini, Narayani, and Bhadrakali. Different temples and traditions may call her by different names, but her connection with Krishna remains the same.
