Celebrity fitness coach Shivohaam Bhatt, who has trained stars like Ranbir Kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan, says weight loss alone is not a true measure of health. In a YouTube discussion, Bhatt explains why focusing only on the scale can lead to muscle loss, sagging skin and metabolic slowdown. Instead, he advocates body recomposition through strength training, clean eating, adequate protein and stress management. Highlighting the roles of HIIT, low-intensity cardio and functional training, Bhatt stresses that building muscle is key to improving metabolism, insulin sensitivity and long-term fat loss.

Shivohaam Bhatt, fitness coach who trained celebrities like Ranbir Kapoor and Amitabh Bacchan said in a YouTube video that losing weight can be essential for a few people but it isn't the only marker of well-being.

He explains, "Weight loss is a healthy and important goal for people who are clinically obese, as it can resolve several health issues. However, there’s a common misconception that being healthy or feeling good always requires losing weight. That’s only partly true. While weight loss can boost confidence, doing it incorrectly may lead to muscle loss and sagging skin."

Unintended consequences can occur if an individual relies heavily on cardio, sessions, step-counting or calorie deficits without adequate protein he warns, "That’s why weight loss on its own isn’t a fully healthy goal. The focus should instead be on body recomposition."

For Shivohaam Bhatt, habits that go beyond the scale responsible for long-term health and physical function, “Training, clean eating and effective stress management are essential for good health. Without them, true health isn’t possible. Building muscle is especially important as it raises basal metabolic rate (BMR), improves insulin sensitivity and supports heart health. Functional training focuses on movements that mirror everyday activities, such as lifting heavy objects or climbing stairs.”

He highlighted that different exercises have different roles to play, “High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) consists of brief bursts of intense exercise followed by periods of rest. In contrast, steady-state low-intensity cardio helps burn fat without excessive strain. Combining functional training with low-intensity cardio can efficiently support calorie burn and long-term fat loss.”

Shivohaam went on about the metabolic benefits of muscle. He explained why strength training should be a priority, “Muscle helps burn fat because it is metabolically active and requires energy to maintain, unlike fat. Without proper muscle stimulation through weight training and adequate protein intake, the body conserves energy by losing muscle, which ultimately makes fat loss more difficult.”
