Societal views often paint certain jobs as exciting, but reality differs. Game testers face repetitive bug hunts. Pet shop work involves cleaning and difficult customers. Veterinarians endure emotional distress and complex diagnoses. Graphic designers grapple with tight deadlines and endless revisions. The demands that these roles make on professionals are so huge, presenting significant challenges.
Due to various reasons such as societal narratives, influence of social media and cinematic portrays, we start believing that some jobs are inherently enjoyable. But the truth is different. Of course, every job has its own perks and setbacks. However, there are some mythical narratives that are surrounding some particular jobs where we see people defining them as “fun and exhilarating.” In this article, we are going to break this narrative and provide you with the complete truth. Read on.
You might be wondering, "gaming was one of the most exciting activities of my childhood and how can that be considered as boring?" Let me explain the truth to you: game tasters usually spend hours playing the exact same scene over and over again. They are constantly in search of glitches and mistakes that might appear in between. Therefore, instead of enjoying the game, work literally gets transformed into a repetitive hunt for bugs and nothing else.
If you are a pet lover, you might be craving for this job or at least you may have prayed for it when you were young. But in reality, it is not a fun job. When you manage a pet shop, you will have to clean cages, the messes created by animals and even you will have deal with the aggressiveness and attitude of a number of pets. Along with all these problems, difficult customers will also appear in front of you like a headache.
Again, if you are an animal lover, you might be dying to become a veterinarian. But wait a second. This job also has a dark side. Most of the veterinarians go through great emotional distress for doing euthanasia on pets. Many a times, they will be doing this on family pets. Hence, they will also be directly experiencing the grief of the owners. Moreover, they have a challenge to diagnose diverse species. In addition to that, they are dealing with non-verbal patients and making a wrong decision can be very dangerous.
When we observe the job from the outside, it may seem like a creative and cool job. But personal opinions of numerous graphic designers draw a grim picture in front of us. They usually have very short deadlines and has to do numerous revisions recommended by clients. Thus, the task can become repetitive. In short, this constant pressure to create visually perfect designs quickly creates a lot of stress for them.
