A heartwarming experience at Delhi’s famous Qutub Minar landmark has caught the attention of the internet. A young girl’s video of her talk with a 76-year-old woman traveling across India alone in the country going viral. What began as a casual introduction turned out to be an inspiring experience about courage, belief, and freedom.
The conversation started casually when the young girl approached the elderly woman and asked her name. “I just met an aunty here. What’s your name?” the young girl asks. “My name is Sunanda. ‘Tai’ is actually my surname,” the elderly woman replies warmly. “Oh! In our language, ‘Tai’ means aunty, so I thought you were saying it that way. So where all have you travelled in India?” the girl continues, curious.
“I have been to Amarnath, Kedarnath, and Rameshwaram,” Sunanda answers confidently, referring to the sacred shrines of Amarnath Temple, Kedarnath Temple, and Ramanathaswamy Temple. “Wow! Did you go to all these places alone?” the girl asks in disbelief.“Yes, I went everywhere alone. I always travel alone. No one accompanies me,” Sunanda responds without hesitation.
“You’ve visited all the major pilgrimage places! What message would you like to give to girls who say they can’t travel alone?” the girl asks “Nothing will happen. God is always with you,” Sunanda says simply. “So girls should travel, right?” “Yes, they should definitely travel.” The conversation ends with the most surprising revelation. “You’ll be shocked to know her age! Aunty, what is your age?” the girl asks excitedly. “I am 76 years old,” Sunanda replies with a gentle smile.
“And right now, we are standing in front of Qutub Minar, and she’s still exploring! So girls, who is stopping you? Thank you, Aunty!” “Thank you,” Sunanda responds.
The caption of the post read, “Today at Qutub Minar, I met a 76-year-ola auntie who travels solo everywhere. She told me one simple line - 'Don't be scared, beta... nothing will happen. God is with us!' Her words felt stronger than any travel motivation. No fear, no excuses, only faith and freedom. This is what real solo travel looks like.
If she can explore the world at 76 what's stopping us?
The story of Sunanda, however, is not just a viral sensation, rather, it is a reminder that courage knows no age. In a world where people are afraid to venture out alone, Sunanda’s courage in her belief in herself teaches a valuable lesson. At times, all one needs to do is believe in oneself and take the first step.
